General
- 01The Jewish Student Association (JSA) is the formal name for the greater Jewish Community at WashU (otherwise known as WashJew). In the Fall of 2021, we became an official Student Union (SU) recognized club -- helping us organize and sponsor the same Jewish community events that we have had over the last few years.
- 02The JSA Board is a collection of students who were elected by members of the Jewish Student Association to be point people for different aspects of the community. The goal of the board is to highlight representative people to help individuals plan events whenever they have ideas for something that will help foster our Jewish community. Although most events should be created by individuals with the help of the board, members of the board are responsible for planning weekly kiddushes, jarties, and melava malkas, as well as several tisches/fabrengens and other celebrations over the course of the semester. In other words, the board will help plan the foundational components of the Jewish community, but the goal of the board is to aid individuals as they create their own events. In addition to event planning, the board focuses on big picture items like inclusivity, outreach and fundraising with the goal of creating a vibrant Jewish community on campus.
- 03Yes! We need people to plan events other than jarties and kiddushes, and to enhance any of the basic functions that the board is responsible for by adding themes, setting up, etc.
- 04Come up with ideas that will further the community! Whether it’s implementing student-led shiurim (@Aiden Yazdi), leading Kiddish Club (@Maya Ohrenstein), or organizing musical Hallel (@Gavi Melnitsky), students are constantly bringing new and fun ideas to the JSA community! Ask a member of the JSA board if there’s anything else you can plan!
